A mail from the Blogger Team

I received an email this morning from the Blogger Team which goes like this:

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Final reminder to update your legacy Blogger account‏

Hello,

You are receiving this message because your email address is associated with an unmigrated legacy Blogger account. As we announced in April of last year, legacy accounts will no longer be accessible after May 30th, 2012 unless they are updated to the Google Account system. Any blog content associated with this account will also be unmodifiable after that date.

To transfer your blog to the Google Account system you need to visit the Legacy Migration page at http://www.google.com/appserve/mkt/7JoJT9g0NC3Z7H right now to make sure that your account and associated blogs are claimed. If you’ve forgotten the Blogger password that is associated with this email address, you can use our Account Recovery page at http://www.google.com/appserve/mkt/B9ODg1eLJe6IYz to request password information to be sent via email.

For more information, please see our initial announcement we posted to our blog at http://www.google.com/appserve/mkt/YII5h4s3I94WQt . If you have questions, please visit our Help Forum at http://www.google.com/appserve/mkt/bH3fZc10cFws0b and create a message with [Legacy Account] in the subject line.

Regards,

I could not find enough information of the authenticity of this email from googling chunks of text from the contents. I was wondering if it is similar to those fake emails from the Windows Live Team whereby users are conned into revealing their MSN/ Hotmail passwords due to some account update. While I have received countless of such scam mails from the Windows Live Team, this is the first I received from Blogger.

Does any of you know what is going on here?

Edited to add:
The email is sent from the email @ "blogger-support@google.com"

  3. Not sure... but I have to assume that this is fake. I got the same email this morning, but obviously the blogger accounts are already connected to the google accounts so....... I am assuming its SPAM

  4. Hello, I received this similar strange mail too (27/04/2012), I have no google blog and I write from belgium :)
    you're are the only result in google search at this time, speaking about this e-mail

  5. I've just got this email in my mailbox today too. Anyone knows if it's legit?

  6. I received this mail today too.

    I received it in my hotmail account, although I have a blog associated with a gmail account. My 2 email accounts are linked, but I haven't received that mail in my gmail account! That's strange.

    Looking at the url which you have to click seems legit. I'ts from the google.com domain. I have even looked at the http traffic (in case there was some kind of intermediate webpage that could do something) and there was a redirection to another page in google.com domain. I couldn't figure out if it is legit or not. It LOOKS not legit, but I can't determine if it is or it isn't.

  7. Phishing for sure. I got it and I don't have a blog.

  8. I found some information on Google's forums from Brett, an official Blogger employee: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/blogger/OtEOplMkE8Q

    Basically if you have any blog on blogger that you have not logged into since 2007, then THAT blog is a Legacy account. A lot of people have posted questions that they are working on answering so if Brett's explanation isn't enough, you might find answers throughout the thread.

    Hope that helps!

  9. I have just received one of these messages today too! And yet my Blogger blogs have all for some time been on a Google account. I had hoped there would be some talk of this on Twitter, but no one seems to have picked it up yet. I feel in a quandry - certainly don't want to lose my blog with its hundreds of postings over past six or so years, but nor do I want to be caught out in a scam. If it's a fake, it's a pretty convincing one, at least to my inexpert eye.

  10. It's a phishing expedition, I believe. I received the same message today (April 27th) in the UK. There is no legacy account page on Google blogger. Don't click on the links.

  11. I got it too, very confusing indeed. I use a gmail account which is already associated to Google so i am not sure what the problem is. Google is getting way too complicated.

  12. Sounds phishy to me too. I would ignore it, but then I ignore a lot of things thta maybe I shouldn't. =)

    You're right, I shouldn't complain about Rikki being spelled funny, it is still better than that Jolene song--and sorry my post led you to google that nasty jaw thing. Yuck!

    Are you feeling better???

  13. Hi all,
    I'm really surprised by the flurry of visits and comments because of this post. Exhausted from work and I haven't really quite digested everyone's contents but I'm so glad to hear you people from all over the world sharing your different experiences and views. It sort of help me understand how people with all sorts of connection or the lack of with blogger have been linked to the email.

    Albert,
    Our scenario is the same. I got this email on my hotmail account but my blog is associated with gmail. I did not see such email in my gmail account.

    I'm trying very hard not to click on the link as I'm afraid I may jeopardize something on my blog after reading this:

    Mandy,
    Thank you so much for sharing the link here. That helps a lot in directing all of us clueless folks!

    I think I'm not going to bother about the email then, since he states that nothing needs to be done if we have logged into the account after 2007. I'm just wondering why I received the email as I do not have any other blogs which I haven't logged in since 2007.

    It's true about Twitter. I do not have a Twitter account but my sister helped me check about an hour ago and nobody has picked this up on Twitter.

    Robert,
    I'm trying not to click on the links too. I'm too afraid of jeopardizing something on my blog after reading this:
    http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/blogger/5sZt4OqxFP8

    ~~~
    Nelah,
    Are you intending to ignore the email?
    ~~~

    Rick,
    You didn't receive any of such email?

    Yeah, your Rikki is way better than Jolene! I'm still blowing my nose but tons better. Thanx for your concern! =)

  14. I also received TWO such emails at different email accounts, but I do not have any Google Blogger account. In fact I had never even heard of Google Blogger up until receiving those phish emails.

  15. it does sound phishy but from what i've been reading, it isn't. just make a new blog to be on the safe side xD

    have a great weekend!

  16. I'm pretty sure it's a fake... essentially it's trying to get you to click on the links to enter your password O_O

  17. Hi jo,
    Its surely a well designed scam to phis passwords.
    here's what I got.

  18. No, I did not get the e-mail. I get plenty of other weird e-mails, but not that one. Friday I got a note from a girl claiming she was sorry it took her so long to get back to me (I NEVER wrote to her), but she was looking forward to getting to know me. LOL

    Glad you're better.

  19. Abby,
    My blog goes all the way back to 2004 and I wouldn't know how to do a back up. lol... I only hope this is all a sham.

    ~~~
    Frances,
    I think so too and that's why I didn't dare to click on the links.
    ~~~

    Animesh,
    Thanx for sharing! I read through your post a while back but could only get back to you now. That's a really detailed study you did there!

    ~~~
    Rick,
    You are a heartbreaker! I'm sure you and your kh would have a good laugh over this. I wonder if you replied her.
I love reading sincere comments and hearing your voice. While blatant self promotion of blogs and follow for follow requests are not advisable, I would love if you leave a mark here with a trackback link so that I could connect with you. I reply to comments here or on your blog so don't forget to check back on replies! =)
